Just Blues - The Saturday night Blues band at Q'Ba, Cannaught Place. The Band consists of some of the cream of Kolkata's working musicians - Jayanta Dasgupta (lead guitar/slide guitar/blues-harp/vocals), Arunima Dasgupta (vocals/percussion), Stuart Munro (bass/vocals), Shaukat Ali (lead/rhythm guitar/vocals), and Jeffrey Rikh (drums/vocals). They perform regularly (every Saturday night) at Someplace Else, the 'Music Mecca' of Kolkata (The Park, Park Street, Kolkata). Under the guidance of Jayanta (a veteran in the scene for over 25 years, and a guitar graduate from the Guitar Institute of Technology, Musician's Institute, Hollywood) the band has been playing its forte of blues, Blues Rock and Jazz Blues, to a full house since January 2000. Starting from the Delta blues of Mississippi, to the more chic yet groovy sounds of Chicago, they cover artists like Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters, Howlin Wolf, Son House, Elmore James, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Bonnie Raitt, Koko Taylor, Etta James, Eric Clapton, Robben Ford, The Robert Cray Band, and Chris Cain to name a few. The band has also done a lot of special events showcasing artists such as The Beatles, Eric Clapton, The Rolling Stones and Dire Straits as well as a 'Rock 'n' Roll Nite'. Always open to experimentation, they specialize in creating their own versions of cover songs and long instrumental jam sessions. Jayanta Gupta: Lead, rhythm and delta slide guitar, blues harp & vocals. A guitar graduate from the Guitar Institute of Technology, Musician's Institute, Hollywood, California, Jayanta has trained under world renowned musicians like Scott Henderson, Tim Bogart, Robben Ford, Keith Wyatt and Daniel Gilbert to name a few. He has been playing the professional music circuit in India for the last 23 years and has also performed extensively in Los Angeles, Germany and London. Jayanta also builds custom hand-wired tube amplifiers for electric and bass guitars. Arunima Das Gupta: Vocals & percussion. A self-taught vocalist, Arunima is a trained drummer and pianist. She has been a part of the professional music circuit since October '99 and has performed nationwide and in London and New York. In between the music and the madness she also works as a freelance designer and fine artist. Stuart Munro: Bass guitar & vocals. An exponent of the 'walk bass', Stu is a self-taught musician. He has been playing in the professional music circuit for the last 27 years and has toured extensively nationwide. Jeffrey Rikh: Drums & vocals - Kolkata's 'living legend', Jeff is a self-taught musician playing the professional music circuit in India since the 70's. He was one of the founder members of one of India's first proffessional bands -SHIVA. He has toured extensively in the Middle East, Australia and India. Shaukat Ali: Lead and rhythm guitar & backup vocals - A self taught musician, Chuku's been playing guitar in the professional music circuit for the past 15 years. He has toured extensively nationwide.
