Junior League of Champlain Valley is proud to bring the highly acclaimed documentary, Miss Representation, to Vermont. Screening will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, November 13, 2011 at the Main Street Landing Performing Arts Center’s Film House. Tickets are available to pre-purchase at: www.jlcv.org.

Produced by Girls’ Club Entertainment, the film exposes how mainstream media contribute to the under-representation of women in positions of power and influence in America. The film challenges the media's limited and often disparaging portrayals of women and girls, which make it difficult for women to achieve leadership positions and for the average woman to feel powerful herself. “We feel this is an important topic to address in Vermont and across our country,” said JLCV President Sara Munro. “With only 17 women leading Fortune 500 companies, continued pay inequity, and the high rate of poor self image among girls, we must consider how media and public discourse impacts our culture and behavior. This film also brings to life the Junior League mission to educate and promote women and change our world for the better.”

After the screening, a community discussion will be facilitated by Heather Munro Prescott, PhD, Professor of History and Women’s Studies at Central Connecticut State University. Prescott, a UVM graduate, is a scholar of the history of medicine and its impact on culture. The panel will also include Kate Paine, Stowe, VT, Executive Director of the Women’s Business Owners Network.

Screening is made possible by the support of Main Street Landing Company and the Junior League of Champlain Valley. Tickets are on sale on the JLCV website: www.jlcv.org.
