For all ages. Join us for the oldest nationally celebrated
commemoration of African-American freedom,
“Juneteenth.” Begin the celebration with an opening
ceremony by Elegba Folklore Society followed by
an Apollo style showcase to highlight local talent
as a “Tribute to Apollo’s 75th Anniversary.” Other
featured entertainment includes guest speaker
Wendell Scott Jr., son of the first African-American
NASCAR Driver to win the Sprint Cup Series.
Wrapping up the afternoon is a showing of the
movie Greased Lightning, a film loosely based
on Scott’s biography. Representatives from the
Richmond Raceway will also be on-site offering
special activities throughout the day. Information:
Rachel Leyco, 501-5134.
