San Marcos community organizations will celebrate Juneteenth June 19-21 with barbecue and cobbler cook-offs, games for all ages, live music, parade, car and talent shows, and a history banquet to commemorate the 144th anniversary of the day that Texas slaves learned they were free in 1865. Throughout the three days, festivities will take place at the Dunbar Park & Community Center, City Park, San Marcos Activity Center, Embassy Suites Veramendi Ballroom and Jackson Chapel Methodist Church.
