This month, enjoy one of Connecticut’s most breathtaking historic gardens — lovingly designed in 1921 by Amy Cogswell, one of the nation’s first female landscape architects — during special events on June 26 and June 30 at the Webb-Deane-Stevens Museum.
On Sunday, June 26 from 1 – 4 p.m., the museum’s Colonial Revival Garden, along with 13 other historic gardens across the state, welcomes visitors for Connecticut Historic Gardens Day. Knowledgeable gardeners will be on hand to show visitors the 99 plant varieties, including roses, hollyhocks, larkspur, pinks, foxglove, peonies, and phlox – that Cogswell used to bring this meticulously crafted space to life during summer and fall months. Some of these plants actually date to the colonial period, while others simply seem old fashioned. Tours of the museum’s three historic homes will be discounted $1 for garden visitors. Refreshments will be served in the garden.
