The Kreeger Museum is proud to present the sixth June Chamber Festival under the artistic direction of Miles Hoffman. In three concerts, the American Chamber Players will present a lively mix of music, from 18th century Baroque sonatas through 20th century compositions that infuse classical idioms with exotic timbres, jazz rhythms and folk tunes. Harmonically and emotionally complex masterpieces - Ravel's Piano Trio or Brahms' Piano Quartet in A Major - will share the festival's bill with music that is urban and sophisticated or infused with lively sentiment and longing for the simple life. Hoffman's unconventional programming, which includes rarely performed pieces by Madeleine Dring (1923-1941), Philips Gaubert (1879-1941), Witold Lutoslawski (1913-1994), and Heitor Villa-Lobos (1887-1959) offers a rich potpourri of styles and sounds. It promises to be light and serious, creating occasions for perfect listening on warm summer nights. A light reception with the musicians will follow the final performance.
