Julie Boulianne, the Canadian mezzo-soprano, sings the role of Stéphano in composer Charles Gounod’s Roméo et Juliette based on Shakespeare’s masterful tragedy of star-crossed love. The opera was first performed in 1867 at the Théâtre Lyrique in Paris, and of its many notable features are a series of four duets for the main characters and the waltz song, “Je veux vivre,” for soprano.
