Julia Sweeney in Letting Go of God April 13, 2007

The Lakeshore Theater’s artistic director Chris Ritter, together with Paul Provenza, director of the hit film The Aristocrats, is proud to present former Saturday Night Live comedian and successful actress Julia Sweeney performing her hit monologue Letting Go of God for two-nights only on April 13 and 14 at the Lakeshore Theater, 3175 N. Broadway.

Sweeney, well known as playing the androgynous character “Pat” on Saturday Night Live in early 1990’s and in the subsequent feature film It’s Pat, has also found success as a playwright using her life experiences as fuel for her hilarious, yet inspiring and sentimental monologues. Her critically acclaimed 1996 one-woman Broadway show God Said, Ha!, addressing her experience of surviving cancer, also spawned a film version of the show, directed by Quentin Tarantino. In recent years, she has also been a consultant on ABC’s Desperate Housewives and HBO’s Sex and the City.

In her monologue Letting Go of God, Sweeney humorously describes her conversion from Catholicism to atheism following her brother’s tragic early death. Described by Provenza as “funny, smart, thought provoking, charming and a perfect theater piece about a personal experience that goes head-to-head with the religious BS going on these days,” the critically acclaimed one-woman show will both entertain and comically inspire audiences.

The Lakeshore Theater is a 338-seat intimate space located in Chicago’s trendy Lakeview neighborhood at 3175 N. Broadway.
