Jules Feiffer - Political Cartoons, Illustrations, Drawings and Prints

Michele Mosko Fine Art is pleased to announce the exhibition of artwork and cartoons by Jules Feiffer; the Pulitzer-prize winning comic artist. Feiffer whose internationally syndicated cartoon ran for 42 years in the Village Voice, weaving the social, political, and personal into a perceptive, challenging, and often hilarious mix. The artist’s unique sensibility permeates a wide range of creative work: from his Obie Award-winning play Little Murders (a prophetic vision of random urban violence), to his screenplay for Carnal Knowledge (a controversial examination of the sex wars), to his Oscar-winning anti-military short subject animation, Munro.

Feiffer’s extraordinary cartoons have been collected into 19 books, and have been published in The New Yorker, Esquire, Playboy, and The Nation. He was commissioned by The New York Times to create its first op-ed page comic strip that ran monthly until 2000, In his mid-sixties, taking inspiration from his three daughters spanning three generations, he reinvented himself as a children’s book author. His first book, The Man in the Ceiling, was selected by Publisher’s Weekly and the New York Public Library, as one of the year’s best children’s books. Two other award-winning books, Bark George, and I Lost My Bear, are being adapted into animated cartoons. Presently, Feiffer is at work, creating a full-length animated feature for Sony Pictures.

This timely exhibit featuring over forty of Mr. Feiffer's contemporary prints, book illustrations and original political and humorous cartoons (dating from the 60’s to a recent caricature of Barack Obama created for this show) opens at Michele Mosko Fine Art in Denver on August 20, 2008 - one week prior to the Democratic National Convention and will remain on display and for sale through Saturday, November 1, 2008. Interestingly, Feiffer was a delegate for the Democratic National Convention in Chicago in 1968, and several cartoons in the show are of that era. In order to accommodate clientele, the Gallery has extended viewing hours, and will stay open daily from 11a.m. to 6p.m. the week of the convention from August 23 thru August 31st.

The artist reception for Mr. Feiffer is scheduled for Friday, September 19th from 5 to 8 pm and RSVP’s are requested, as space is limited. Mr. Feiffer is available for both telephone and in-person interviews prior to and during his stay in Denver. Additional files of artwork to be exhibited are available upon request.
