Artist reception Sat, Sept 3, 6-8pm; exhibit runs Sept 2-30
Market Street Gallery is pleased to present Jubilation, an exhibition showcasing a special installation of encaustic works by Cari Hernandez exploring faith, courage, joy, and pleasure. The exhibit will open September 2, 2011, and run through September 30, 2011. The artist reception will be held on Saturday, September 3, 2011, from 6 PM - 8 PM.
There is an aesthetic that speaks loudly through Cari Hernandez's work... a central theme where she explores faith, courage, joy, and pleasure to name a few.
Encaustic is the connective medium found in most of her work, it is one of the most exciting materials that she has ever worked with. Cari Hernandez often brings fiber, paper, photography, and other mediums together, as there is a unique synergy when mingled.
She does what she does because she cannot image life any differently; Cari Hernandez needs to express the themes and ideas of her world. She is passionate about personal expression, as it seems to be that this human existence is about the experiences that we participate in...our ability to feel love, joy, fear, loss...that is what defines us at the end of the day. Her work explores these things, and serves as a touchstone. Combining mediums serves as a way for her to uniquely express herself, looking to stay connected to her personal humanity, coming back to herself again and again.
