OLD STATE HOUSE COMES TO LIFE WITH NEW SUMMER CONCERT SERIES
Joyce Alper and Andrus Madsen to Perform Oboe Music of the Baroque at the Old State House on August 4
Who: The Bostonian Society, in partnership with Newton Baroque, presents the Old State House Summer Concert Series 2007.
What: Oboist Joyce Alper and harpsichordist Andrus Madsen will perform a program entitled The Mighty Hoboy. The Hoboy, or oboe as it is known today, was a favorite woodwind instrument in the early 18th century. This program will feature solo oboe music of the High Baroque from Italy and England.
When: Saturday, August 4 at 12:30 p.m.
Where: The Old State House, 260 Washington Street (Corner of State and Congress Streets) in Downtown Boston
Why: This summer, the Old State House will come to life with live performances of 18th century music. This three-concert series, presented by The Bostonian Society in partnership with Newton Baroque, will offer music that was popular in Boston and may have been played in the Old State House during the colonial period. Newton Baroque director Andrus Madsen will provide commentary throughout the concerts to place the music in historical context.
