Denise Molina became infatuated with the Idea of sculpting metal in the mid 1980s and wanted to learn welding. In 1986 she attended Capitol City Trade and Technical School in Austin and became a certified welder. Afterwards she worked on two new high-rise buildings that were being built in Austin at the time. After a very close call during their construction, she quickly remembered that the reason she pursued welding was the creative part of it. Soon she began to create sculptures in her tiny garage. In no time at all she was in love. A trip to Europe to study with master blacksmith Hans Lothman just fanned that flame. Upon returning, she started Molina’s Metal Art Studio where she designs and builds decorative furniture. She has continued to create metal sculpture and also teaches young children and others metal art. She recently joined a metal cooperative where she spends all her spare time creating metal sculpture.
