Berklee College of Music, the Fenway Civic Association, and ParkARTS present the free outdoor jazz concert series Swingin in Mothers Rest, Wednesdays, July 11, 18, and 25, 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. (weather permitting), at Mothers Rest playground, located down the stairs from the Boylston St. bridge in the Back Bay Fens, at the corner of Boylston St. and The Fenway. Wednesday, July 18, Josh Connelly Band: Berklee student Josh Connelly, a native of New Orleans, LA, is a talented multi-instrumentalist who began playing drums in church at age 4. He was introduced to piano at 10, and quickly taught himself to play before discovering his love of guitar at 12. Connelly attended the New Orleans Center for the Creative Arts (NOCCA) Riverfront, where he studied under saxophonist Donald Harrison and the late clarinetist Alvin Batiste. In the summer of 2004, he attended Berklees Five-Week Summer Performance Program, after which he was awarded a scholarship to attend the college full-time. Before coming to Berklee, Connelly had the opportunity to perform in his hometown with artists including The Batiste Brothers Band, Maurice Brown, Billy Cobham, original members of the Headhunters and the Meters, Papa Grows Funk, the Neville Brothers, Eric Krasno of Soulive, and Meshell Ndegeocello.
