Joseph Mitchell's Harbor: A Conversation with Mark Kurlansky, Luc Sante, Robert Sullivan, and Nathan Ward June 19, 2012

The National Book Foundation will host a discussion of the New York Harbor based around the work of legendary New Yorker writer Joseph Mitchell. A southerner by birth, Mitchell was a chronicler of the New York experience and often drawn to the water’s edge. Using Mitchell’s collection of classic essays, The Bottom of the Harbor, as a guide and inspiration, acclaimed writers Mark Kurlansky, Luc Sante, Robert Sullivan, and Nathan Ward will explore New York Harbor as it was in the forties and fifties―when the Fulton Fish Market was thriving and office workers and fishmongers rubbed elbows on South Street. Architect, designer, and writer James Sanders will moderate the discussion.

Free Naked Cowboy or Shibumi oysters, presented by Blue Island Oyster Company of West Sayville, NY will be available, (while supplies last).
