Dallas Contemporary proudly presents the works of noted artist, teacher and administrator in Joseph Havel: Two Sheets (to the wind). The exhibition continues September 5 to December 24, 2008 and is open to the public Tuesday to Saturday, 10 to 5 pm. Havel uses common materials in his art ~ white dress shirts, curtains, tablecloths ~ to reach out to a broader audience. His interest in fabric began over fifteen years ago, he uese fabric as a medium to explore his interest in draping throughout history. He deftly addresses the technical and artistic challenge of translating limp fabric into flamboyant bronze sculptures and delicate constructions that quietly suggest movement in a process the artist has described as “uncovering the activity of still objects.” Concurrent Exhibitions Mix!
