The Livermore Rotary Club announces a concert to benefit the Livermore Rotary Music Scholarship program and the Coaniquem burn center in Chile. The concert will feature internationally known classical guitarist Dr. Jorge Rojas-Zegers. In addition to being a professor of classical guitar at the university in Santiago, Chile, Dr. Zegers is also a renowned plastic surgeon, and the founder and president of Coaniquem, the Corporation to Help Burned Children.
Dr. Rojas-Zegers is the creator of many works for classical guitar. He has published a collection of works by contemporary composers, "Chilean Music's Anthology for Guitar". He has also recorded a collection of CDs of Chilean music. He has performed many concerts in Chile, Brazil, Spain, and the United States.
Dr. Rojas-Zegers studied with Lilliana Perez-Corey at the University of Chile, where he obtained a degree in 1972. He taught guitar at the University of Chile beginning in 1975, and was a professor from 1989 to 2001.
The Livermore Rotary Music Scholarship fund was established by Michael Ferrucci in 2001 to provide scholarships and grants to middle and high school music students in Livermore. In 2009, the fund was able to give out over 20 scholarships, ranging in value from $250 to $1000.
Coaniquem, Corporation de Ayunda Nino Quemado ("Corporation to Help Burned Children") was founded by Dr. Rojas-Zegers in 1979. Since its inception, Coaniquem has benefited the lives of over 75,000 children, enabling them to live productive and fulfilling lives.
Joining Dr. Zegers on the program will be two Livermore music students: cellist Bronwyn Hagerty, and guitarist Dylan Wydjaja.
