89.3 The Current presents The Current Fakebook with John Waters at The Fitzgerald Theater on Saturday, November 10th at 8:00 pm.
This special Fakebook will begin with a performance of John Waters’ one man show, "This Filthy World," followed by a conversation with Mary Lucia. "This Filthy World" is a “vaudeville” act that celebrates the film career and obsessional tastes of the man William Burroughs once called “The Pope of Trash.” Focusing in on Waters’ early negative artistic influences and his fascination with true crime, exploitation films, fashion lunacy, and the extremes of the contemporary art world, this joyously devious monologue elevates all that is trashy in life into a call to arms to “filth followers” everywhere.
The evening's featured musical group will be The [Gosh Darn] Do Wop Band. Formed just about a year ago, the band started between lattes when Coudray, co-vocalist Saumer Jackson and the group's principal songwriter, Katie (Kat) Naden, all worked in harmony at the Muddy Waters coffeehouse in Uptown. They headlined First Avenue's new band showcase in January and were courted by local indie outlet Afternoon Records this summer to release Broken Hearts. This is doo-wop with a punk attitude. The group is made up of three female singers in Eisenhower-era prom dresses backed by a four-member band. The singers say doo-wop is the perfect vehicle to harmonize together, is supremely fun to play, and can shake a audience from its slumber.
