If you ask an actor what type of role they would love to portray, the answer would be a character that is full of life and colorful stories, someone that has seen life and lived without a safety net. That character is Joey "CoCo" Diaz.
Whether he's talking about his favorite Chinese restaurant in Jersey or lighting a stage on fire with his raw and brutally honest style of comedy and storytelling, Joey will win your heart over with his presence and warmth.
Born in Cuba and raised in North Bergen, New Jersey, Joey's first experience as an entertainer was in his mother's bar. He learned to bartend during the day, and at night he played the congas and cracked Richard Pryor jokes to the crowd.
Joey Diaz started his comedy career in Denver, but honed his craft in Seattle. One night after a show, Joey was approached by CBS for a pilot called "Bronx County." Joey packed his bags and headed to L.A. The pilot was never picked up but Joey took a chance and stayed.
Joey's gamble paid off. Since then, he has taped numerous stand-up specials, like Showtime's " Payaso Comedy Slam" and Comedy Central's "Gabriel Iglesias Presents Stand-Up Revolution." As a TV actor, Joey has been seen on shows like "How I Met Your Mother," "Law and Order: SVU" and "My Name is Earl" and HBO's "Funny or Die" videos. As a film actor, Joey can be seen in "Stacy's Mom," "Analyze That," "Spiderman 2" and "The Longest Yard," plus two films for ABC Family: "The Dog That Saved Christmas Vacation" and "The Dog That Saved Christmas." Recently, Joey has two films being released: "Born to be a Star" and ABC Family's "The Dog That Saved Halloween."
The podcast is no stranger to Joey, either. He is presently recording "The Beauty and Da Beast Podcast" with Felicia Michaels. The podcast is about life and its struggles with an optimistic view.
Joey currently resides in Los Angeles with his wife and 9 cats. After all the things Joey went through in his life good and bad. He took those things he learned and turned that hustle mentality into something positive. From the stage to films to television and now podcast, Joey is a real life comedy character.
