Joe Bataan - The King Of Latin Soul
Boogaloo, Latin Soul, Rhythm and Blues, Salsa, Disco, Latin Funk, Latin R&B Latin Jazz, Rap.... What didn't Joe Bataan sing?

Joe Bataan became known as the first recording artist to create authentically Latin Soul music. Although Latin Soul existed in the past before Joe Bataan 's merger, however these recording artists were actually Boogaloo singers. They sang English lyrics in a soulful do-wop style along with Boogaloo music. Hector Rivera is one example with his Boogaloo hits in 1966 "I wanna a chance for romance", "At The Party" and "Drown my heart". Mr. Bataan didn't coin the phrase "Latin Soul"; the phrase was used in the early 60's and perhaps late 1950's with La Lupe and Tito Puente. Mr. Bataan actually created the music as it should have sounded. By merging Latin music with R&B tunes in the late 60's, "Latin Soul" was officially born by the creator Joe Bataan.

In 1995 Mr. Bataan returned to the stage after a 20-year hiatus from the music industry and made several live appearances. In C [Edit Image] olumbia, he was given a weird request to sing one of his Latin Soul hits "Riot", since it is kind of a national anthem in Columbia. It seems as if folks wanted to confirm they had the real Bataan and not a fake look-alike. Mr. Bataan was amazed that many showed up and remembered his music.

On April 2005, Joe Bataan released a new album titled "Call My Name" on Vampisoul records. The album includes 8 new songs that sound very fresh. Mr. Bataan has maintained his trademark, vintage sound with the use of instruments such as clavinette, Hammond organ, groovy bass, funky drums, Latin percussion and his voice which, as always, exudes his soul. It is wonderful to have the King of Latin Soul back on the scene again. He was missed dearly and his true fans won't be disappointed by this concert.

Kool Katz
Exciting! Fabulous! Explosive! This is the buzz about "The Kool Katz" band and their unique and infectious sound they call Latin PaZazz (a blend of Salsa, Latin rhythms and jazz). With sultry vocals, searing guitar, a solid rhythm unit and screaming horn section - The Kool Katz can really get any party started with their repertoire of cover and original tunes.. Based in the heart of Silicon Valley (San Jose, CA), The Kool Katz was founded in 1998 by guitarist Art Galvan and his wife, lead vocalist Kelly Galvan. Together, Art and Kelly combine their musical talents to compose The Kool Katz original sounds. The band has released two CD's and are now working on their third entitled "Kool Katz & Friends" featuring Tower of Power horn section and other special guests.

Richard Bean Richard Bean & Sapo
"In the annals of Bay Area music, Malo's "Suavecito" will no doubt go down as the ultimate Latino love song. The San Francisco Latin rock group's 1972 hit featured the voice of Richard Bean, who wrote it. Today the longtime Hayward resident is still going strong with Sapo, the band he formed after leaving Malo. Sapo (the name translates as "Frog") also got national exposure with a very nice self-titled album; barrio low-rider classics such as "Can't Make It," "Sapo's Montuño," and "Ritmo del Corazón" came out of that now-collectible LP."

"The Emergence of the "New Chicano Groove" has sparked renewed interest in Latin rock bands whose appearance in the late 1960s and early '70s altered the face of popular music. Santana is rightly credited for kick-starting this mini-revolution. Hitching African-Latin polyrhythms to rock guitar, the band paved the way for a myriad of other Chicano-led ensembles, most notably Azteca, Malo and Sapo. The incorporation of R&B, percussion and jazz elements made these bands sound unique. Richard Bean was instrumental in upping the funk quotient in the then novel sound."

Carlos Elizalde Carlos Elizalde's Rukatan
Ruckatan, an ancient game. This Latin Tribe is composed of seven players who have all contributed to the local Latin Rock scene in the Bay Area and internationally with various Latin, Reggae and Rock acts. Ruckatan is a fusion of Latin and Reggae. Members hailing from three different continents infuse their culture and love of their roots into this new band called Ruckatan, which includes Carlos Elizalde on vocals, Jose Angel Amador on vocals and keys, Blaine Hoopes on keys and various woodwinds, Vicente Ponciano on Congas, Ernesto "Matute" Lopez on percussion, Ray Uribes on bass and Ed "Loveletter" Elizalde on guitar. The music is very dance oriented with many Latin and Caribbean flavors, a celebration of life and music.
