Billie Holiday often singled out Jimmy Scott as her favorite singer, and over the course of a long, circuitous career that dates back to his 1949 jukebox hit 'Everybody's Somebody's Fool' (with Lionel Hampton's big band), among other recordings. Scott's fragile, eggshell vibrato, keening falsetto, and languid, floating style of jazz phrasing is something to behold, currently featured on the recent release, 'But Beautiful.'
