Jewish Family & Children’s Service (JF&CS) will host the third annual food pantry open house -Feed the Pantry-Feed the Soul- on Sunday April 18th from noon to 3 p.m.
The event is a major food-and-fundraiser for the Harvey Kornblum Jewish Food Pantry, from which no one is turned away.
***Admission to the event is a bag of groceries.*** Items that are needed most are canned pasta with meat, hearty soups, tuna, beef stew, peanut butter and healthy snacks
While the main intent is to replenish the pantry shelves and keep up with ever increasing demands, organizers have planned a full afternoon of activities for donors, offering them a chance to contribute, do something rewarding and still have fun at the same time. Anyone wishing to participate is invited to see the distribution center, stack groceries and help make nutritious snacks for families in need. Along with these activities there will be face painting, a silent auction and door prizes.
Last year’s event raised $70,000 and collected more than 500 bags of groceries from 450 guests. This year’s goal is to fill 1,000 grocery bags and raise enough in donations to replenish the empty shelves of the food pantry, which experienced a 74% increase in families in 2009.
For generations, JF&CS has offered compassionate support and practical solutions to guide people through life’s ups and downs. The food pantry was established in 1991 to serve clients living in zip codes surrounding the JF&CS. Today the JF&CS helps serve clients from over 89 different zip codes throughout the greater St. Louis area.
