Jesse Jarnow | Big Day Coming: Yo La Tengo and the Rise of Indie Rock
Wednesday, September 19, 2012 at 7:30 p.m.; FREE
In Big Day Coming, Jesse Jarnow tells the story of Yo La Tengo, a free- thinking trio from Hoboken, New Jersey who created a new kind of rock-and-roll mythology. Jarnow places Yo La Tengo in context, showing how the path of this rock trio paralleled the birth and growth of the infrastructure of indie rock. The independent record labels, clubs, fanzines, and college radio stations that grew alongside Yo La Tengo continue to support adventurous new music that lives outside the mainstream. Jarnow is an independent rock journalist and DJ of WFMU’s The Frow Show who has written for The London Times, The Village Voice, and Paste.
This is a free author event and will be followed by a book signing.
