When I was a child, I would try to make "good pictures". It wasnt even art, but I wanted honest opinions for my hard work. After several "oh, thats nice" statements from my parents about my doodles and drawings, I presented a piece of white paper with scribbles all over it as an experiment in honesty. I asked my mother what she thought of it and she said it was "nice". In the supremely self righteous manner that all children adopt, I informed her that it was ugly and was a test to see if she really was giving me her honest opinion. How would I learn otherwise? My mother was, from there on out, much more forthcoming with her opinions. And I began a journey of trying to learn more and be better at articulating my vision in 2D and 3D mediums. I started taking Life Drawing classes when I was 13 at a local community center. I needed a special letter of permission to draw the "naked people". I took every art class available in High School and took Art History after school because I was the only person interested in it. At Syracuse University, for my Bachelor Degree, I double majored in Painting and in Computer Graphics and minored in Drawing because I wanted to have a full range of experiences and I thought this would help me do that. In Graduate School, at the Academy of Art College in San Francisco, I majored in 3D Modeling and Animation and took Illustration and Drawing classes in my free time. I have worked as a freelance graphic designer, a commissioned painter, a mural artist, a set designer, helped run a busy scene shop, made models of Winnie the Pooh for a toy company, started a freelance photography business, worked remotely all over the United States for logo and brand designing and have a wide variety of two dimensional and three dimensional, time based and static, skills to draw from. I am an artist who does Digital Photography, oil painting, illustration and graphic design right now. Next year it might be 3D computer aided modeling and animation, ad design and wedding photography. The year after it could be any combination of the skills I have acquired over a lifetime of learning and experience. And I will enjoy every moment of each new creation and each new experience. A Jack of All Trades and a Master of quite a few is a motto that I am happy to live by as an artist. I currently live in Easthampton, MA with my wife and one year old daughter. We made the move over a year ago to the Valley and we are very happy we did. http://www.magpieartstudio.com
