Jean Grae and Tamar-Kali duke it out at Santos Party House with special guests.
JEAN GRAE
Jean Grae of the Blacksmith Records family has authored several critically acclaimed rap albums including Jeanius, Bootleg of the Bootleg EP, The Evil Jeanius and This Week. She collaborates extensively with the producer 9th Wonder, and has also worked with Masta Ace, C-Rayz Walz, Cannibal Ox, Immortal Technique, Talib Kweli and Mos Def. She resides in Brooklyn, New York where she subsists on a steady diet of rappers.
TAMAR-KALI
Tamar-kali is one of those rare artists. David Bowie has come to see her play. Nona Hendryx. Me'Shell Ndegeocello. Tamar-kali was trained in the church. What makes Tamar-kali different, however, is that the church in which she raised her voice was Catholic. And the dark corners she found in that religion impacted her in such a way that her sound became more lush, more unexpected, more fire and less brimstone. In subsequent years, she established herself as a dominant force with a resonant voice on the NYC rock scene. She has collaborated with artists such as Fishbone and Outkast.
