Theory, ear training and practice routines are combined in a simple, fun and highly effective method. Classes go far beyond verbal information and involve extensive and ongoing musical training. Instructor Jim Grantham, a professional saxophonist, bandleader, and music educator for over 30 years, has taught jazz classes at Berklee College of Music, San Francisco State and was Director of Jazz Studies at Cal State at Hayward. Jim began these popular classes in 1977 at the Keystone Korner jazz club in SF.
The reference material for the course is the JAZZMASTER WORKOUT Cookbook, a combination theory textbook and unique practice method entitled the JAZZMASTER Workout. Play-along practice CDs are optionally available.
The entire course is divided into a series of five progressive classes (Beginning though Advanced). Each class meets 2 1/2 hours a week for 10 weeks. Classes include discussions, singing, ear training, melody writing, practice and performance techniques, tune analysis, improvisation, homework & projects.
