Tunxis Community College in Farmington will host its 2nd annual Jazz Night on April 7 in Founders Hall from 6:30-10 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
As part of a “Jazz Improvisation” course offered by the College this spring, the evening features demonstrations, performances and an open jam session. Following is a schedule of events:
6:30-7:15 p.m.: Dr. Wayne Pierce will demonstrate the Akai EWI, an electronic wind instrument, and its potential for creating new sounds for jazz and world music.
7:30-8:15 p.m.: The Tom Briggs Trio
8:30-9:15 p.m.: Brian Jenkins Quartet
9:30-10 p.m.: Open improvisation. Community musicians and vocalists are invited to join members of the band and the Tunxis “Jazz Improvisation” class for a jam session. The class has selected the numbers “Freddie the Freeloader (B-flat Blues),” “Take the A Train,” and “Autumn Leaves.” Beginner to experienced musicians are welcome.
