Music on the Move Concert Series Features Jazz in June
Celebrate "Tenor Legacy: 75 Years of the Tenor Sax in Jazz" at Gaithersburg's Music on the Move concert Friday, June 3 at 7:30 p.m.
The Paul Carr Quartet and the Perry Conticchio Trio will perform simultaneously at the Arts Barn and Kentlands Mansion, located at 311 and 320 Kent Square Road in Gaithersburg. Admission is $25, $22 for City of Gaithersburg residents.
From its humble beginnings as a harmony instrument in New Orleans, to Coleman Hawkins' tenor solo hit Body & Soul, onwards to John Coltrane and beyond, the tenor saxophone is often called "THE" sound of jazz. The distinctive and expressive tones of the tenor sax reflect a gifted player's innermost emotions. It has been the instrument of choice for many of jazz's greatest players, composers and innovators. Tenor sax men, Perry Conticchio and Paul Carr, will, in two magical sets, give you an exciting snapshot of the tenor sax in jazz history. It promises to be a unique evening of inspiring, enlightening, and energizing saxophone artistry.
With concerts occurring simultaneously at the Arts Barn Theatre and Kentlands Mansion, patrons can attend the first set of the evening in one venue, then switch at intermission to enjoy the second set in the other.
Intermission will feature a variety of delicious, complimentary desserts. Champagne, wine, beer and soft drinks will be available for purchase.
