At this performance, Naylor will sing the music from her acclaimed album, The Color Five, as well as select songs from her prior recordings. She will also give fans a taste of her recent holiday release, Smashed for the Holidays, by performing her original tune, “Celebrate Early and Often.”

Jacqui Naylor’s long-awaited holiday CD, Smashed for the Holidays, earned the vocalist and songwriter critical acclaim from coast-to-coast. Her long-awaited holiday CD features a seamless combination of classic rock and holiday classics. Tying everything together is Naylor’s trademark "acoustic smashing," where here she sings a holiday standard while the band plays a well-known rock tune. Picture "Santa Claus is Coming to Town" over the groove of Lynyrd Skynyrd's " Sweet Home Alabama .” The record was called “the most adventurous Christmas album of 2007…” by All Music Guide, and Jonathan Takiff of the Philadelphia Daily News marveled that “Jacqui Naylor found a way to make even the most familiar Christmas standard sound fresh on Smashed for the Holidays.” The record was rated the number one holiday release by Jazziz and in the top 10 from USA Today, The Washington Post and The Boston Globe.

On her previous release, The Color Five, Naylor incorporated many different calculations of the number “5.” There are five musicians on the record; the song selection is also broken down into groups of five; there are five originals (all co-written by Naylor and pianist/guitarist Art Khu), five impeccably-chosen covers, and five of Naylor’s “acoustic smashes.”. For example, Naylor sings the U2 favorite “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For” over the music of Miles Davis’ “All Blues” – which they’ve done here in 5/4 time. Appropriately, the CD clocks in at 55 minutes and 55 seconds.The Color Five’s first “acoustic smash,” is Naylor singing Rod Stewart’s “Hot Legs” over fellow Buddhist Herbie Hancock’s “Cantaloupe Island.” The other “acoustic smashes” on The Color Five are just as fun and surprising. The Gershwins’ “Summertime” is served up over The Allman Brothers’ “Whipping Post” in a blend that must be heard to be believed. Likewise, Naylor takes the upbeat vibe of Lee Morgan’s “Sidewinder” and gives us an even more gender-bending version of The Kinks’ “Lola.” Add to the "smashes" Naylor's sensitive treatment of ballads and lyrically-inspired originals and it becomes clear why JazzTimes calls this artist a "triple threat."

Naylor and her band are currently on tour in the US and around the world, her recordings distributed throughout the United States , Europe and Japan . Her tour includes such acclaimed venues as SF Jazz Festival at Herbst, Ronnie Scott's in London and the Blue Note Clubs in New York , Milan and Japan . "No matter how many lovely cities we play in around the world, I am always excited to return to my native Bay Area and perform for my friends and family at home," says Naylor.

The concert at Oakland's Chapel of the Chimes on February 17th will be followed by an artist reception where the public can meet the artist, enjoy refreshments and purchase CDs.“ Jazz at the Chimes” is a monthly series sponsored by the Lifemark Group Arts program that features Bay Area talent. Concerts are held at the Chapel of the Chimes in Oakland – a designated City of Oakland Landmark designed by Julia Morgan. The Chapel provides a wonderful visual backdrop and acoustic listening venue for live music in a setting like no other.
