The popular Jazz at Lincoln Center family concert series, 'Jazz for Young People' will help to inspire the budding jazz lovers in your family with amusing and enlightening presentations. Since adults can learn so much at these concerts as well, "all grown-ups must be accompanied by a child!"
What is the Big Band Era?
Even 75 years after the big band era, scholars, and fans – not to mention dancers – agree that this was the period when jazz reached its peak, not only of popularity but of musical greatness. Ted Nash leads the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra in a program sampling all the major bands – Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Benny Goodman – and showing what made them swing so hard. Repertoire will include classics like Benny Goodman’s “Sing, Sing, Sing,” Count Basie’s “One O’Clock Jump,” Glen Miller’s “In the Mood,” and Tommy Dorsey’s “I’m Getting Sentimental Over You.” Guests include the host’s father, trombonist Dick Nash, vocalist Charenee Wade, and swing dancers.
