JAZZ & LE PETIT CINEMA: SMITH DOBSON TRIO and FUTURE SHORTS
Friday, August 31st
Drummer/vibraphonist Smith Dobson has been performing in the Bay Area for close to twenty years now. In 2000, percussionist William Wynant asked Smith to join him and the San Francisco Contemporary Music Players for a Yerba Buena Theater performance of works by composers Anthony Davis and Charles Mingus. Smith was also a member of the ska/punk/rock band Square Roots in the mid-90s.
Since 2001, Smith has turned much of his artistic energy into composing for his current trio, which features Devin Hoff on bass, Vijay Anderson on drums, John Finkbeiner on guitar, and Smith on vibraphone. In January 2007, the Smith Dobson Trio released their debut album of original compositions, Basement Bloodlines (Evander Music).
