The Detroit Jazz Monthly raves, “Barbara is not a shouter, and she doesn’t scat. Instead, she chooses songs that tell a story or express a mood and delivers the lyrics with feeling and finesse, sophistication and dignity, always tempered with a sly smile and a touch of sass.”
Barbara Ware’s approach to most burnished jazz standards is long, lean and sinuous. Ware’s voice can be feather-light or can pierce steel with its poignancy. Her phrasing is tart and wily, her choice of arrangements controlled and deliberately spare. She may seem like a minimalist, until she decides to open up her middle range and melt the listener’s laissez-faire with the slaying power of a single, laser-like note.
Ms. Ware will be backed by the Cliff Monear Trio. Cliff Monear is a product of the Berkeley College of Music and his jazz group, the Cliff Monear Trio, is one of the busiest performing rhythm sections in the Midwest.
