The arts come together during Comerica Java & Jazz…a coffee house series.

Detroit has long been known as a great jazz town. When you add the exciting art of spoken word into the mix, you have the Detroit Public Library’s 2007 Comerica Java and Jazz series. Celebrating its seventh season, Comerica Java & Jazz continues the tradition of providing a monthly after-work concert series that showcases some of Detroit’s finest creative talent.

The May 2007 concert features jazz performer Yancyy and poet Kahn Davison.

Yancyy plays jazz! It is more than your traditional jazz and more than standard R&B. You can even say it’s more than hip-hop rhythms dressed up with the hypnotic sound of the saxophone. Yancyy’s rhythms infuse the soul with powerful, inspiring and uplifting music that feeds your senses.

Kahn Davison, formerly one-half of the poetry group Khaos, is a Cave Canem fellow whose work has been featured in the publications of the Alabama Poetry Society, the Entoitist, the Baltimore Review, London’s X-Bout and the Litchfield Review.

Join us at the Detroit Public Library’s Main Library for a celebration of jazz and poetry while experiencing the amazing talent of performers of local and national acclaim. Performances are free and open to the public every third Tuesday of the month at 6:00pm through August (except June, when there will be a special Saturday concert).
