Japanese Taiko Drum Concert September 26, 2009

Kaminari (Japanese for "thunder") Taiko Group, led by Kenji Nishiyama, is composed of both native drummers from Japan as well as local musicians who "train" in the remote mountain town north of Crestone. Renowned taiko drummer Koji Nakajima, now residing in Pasadena, will join the group for the concert. Local musician Bea Brecht will play the 13-stringed koto, a traditional Japanese harp-like instrument, during intermission. A short taiko "workshop" will follow the performance for all who are interested. Children are encouraged to come enjoy the excitement.
