The inspiration for Mingei International Museum, the timeless beauty of Japan is broadly represented by pottery, textiles, lacquer ware, furniture, tools and utensils and dolls and toys -- mostly the work of unknown craftsmen. Included, as well, are many works by the disciples of Dr. Soetsu Yanagi (he coined the word mingei); pottery by Shoji Hamada, Kanjiro Kawai and Tatsuzo Shimaoka; stencil-dyed textiles and books by Keisuke Serizawa and wood block prints and paintings by Shiko Munakata.
