PERSUASION
a play adapted from Jane Austen's novel
by Pamela Whalan
with outdoor direction by Jonathan Pedersen
At twenty-seven, Anne Elliot is no longer considered young. Eight years earlier, having been "persuaded" to break off her engagement to Frederick Wentworth, a naval captain with neither fortune or title, the daughter of a once fashionable family now finds herself with few romantic prospects. What happens to Anne and those around her when fate brings the now experienced and eligible Captain back into their lives is movingly told in Jane Austen's last completed novel. "Persuasion" is a smart satire of vanity and pretension - a love story tinged with the heartache of missed opportunities, and laced with hope for second chances.
This version has been adapted for the stage by Pamela Whalan and is guest directed by Jonathan Pedersen ("CHICAGO the musical", "Little Women", "Annie Get Your Gun") with intimate outdoor staging for families to enjoy together under the summer sky.
