Jan van der Heyden (1637-1712) was the preeminent Dutch painter of cityscapes and the first artist anywhere to record all the beauty of the urban scene. This first monographic exhibition of Van der Heyden's art to be mounted in seventy years will present approximately forty paintings and twenty drawings of the greatest painter of cityscapes in the Golden Age of Dutch painting. The exhibition will have its only showing in the United States at the Bruce Museum and will thereafter travel to the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
