Jamie Drake was born in Ohio, and moved to Florida, Arkansas and South Carolina before settling in Michigan with her family. Her music is a unique brand of folk music with hints of Billie Holiday and Joni Mitchell. Her span of influences are primarily drawn from male singer songwriters ranging from Neil Young to Jeff Buckley to Band of Horses lead singer, Ben Bridwell.
When she was younger, Drake spent most of her time playing a second-hand player piano her mom had bought her. When the piano fell off a moving truck, she turned to an old Kingston guitar. For 10 years she wrote and sang before walking off the steps of her porch in L.A. two years ago to start playing around town.
Jamie set up shop at a free bar in L.A. where there was a genuine crowd and a safe environment where artists were allowed to grow. She played there regularly and embarked on a year-long residency in 2010. Jamie has since produced “When I Was Yours” which she began recording in 2008. She is currently working on a secret project set to launch in 2011.
