As part of his cross-country tour from San Diego to New York, bassist James Ilgenfritz will perform as part of the “Soundscape presented by Mystery Cabal” series bringing his unique approach to making music to Denver.
For his Denver show, Ilgenfritz will perform solo works written specifically for him as well as the music of major composers of the 20th Century, including saxophonists Anthony Braxton and Jimmy Giuffre, and composers Luciano Berio and Iannis Xenakis.
The evening will also will feature two other sets. Ilgenfritz will perform free improvisation in a trio comprised of local Wu Fei on the guzheng, a traditional Chinese stringed instrument, and Conrad Kehn on vocals and electronics. Following, The Playground, Colorado’s premier contemporary ensemble, will join Ilgenfritz for an improvisation using Soundpainting techniques.
