This lecture will focus upon Agee’s remarkable variety of published works—as a poet, novelist, journalist, essayist, film reviewer, and screenplay writer.
He was unquestionably successful in all these genres, and lived his life totally engaged in art in a way that created legends and devoted fans.
Agee's endeavors makes him a convincing cultural mirror of the 1930s, 40s, and 50s, often allowing new readers to enter his world. Be prepared, however, to explore, expand, and reevaluate. Agee seldom leaves preconceptions unchallenged.
Lecture lead by Michael A. Lofaro, Lindsay Young Professor of American Studies and American Literature at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
