Houston-based Classical pianist Jade Simmons is set to debut her innovative performance project titled Scriabin and Kandinksy: Hearing Color, Seeing Sound. The special premiere will be held at Wade Wilson Art in a two-night only private viewing on Friday, August 21st and Saturday, August 22nd, 2009. Only 50 seats per concert are available and advanced ticket purchase is required from www.jademedia.org. Both concerts start at 7pm and will be held at Wade Wilson Art located at 4411 Montrose Blvd in Houston's Museum District.
Simmons is known for her eclectic programming and the Scriabin/Kandinsky is an exciting example. Combining music and artwork, Jade will perform Russian composer Alexander Scriabin's 24 Preludes, Op.11 alongside the projected artwork of Russian painter Wassily Kandinsky. The concert includes a mini-lecture on the artists and their shared synesthetic condition. Synesthesia is a condition in which one type of stimulation evokes the sensation of another, as when the hearing of a sound produces the visualization of a color. The slides of Kandinsky's art are on loan to Jade from the Guggenheim Museum in New York. Yamaha Piano (distributed by Sherman Clay Pianos in Houston) will provide the instrument for both concerts.
Due to the limited seating of only 50 seats per concert, tickets must be purchased in advance at www.jademedia.org no later than Thursday, August 20th. For more information, interested persons can contact Jade Media at 832-247-6647.
