JACL/OCA Leadership Conference
March 2 – March 6, 2007
Sponsored by State Farm®
The 13th Annual State Farm® JACL/OCA (Japanese American Citizens League & Organization of Chinese Americans) Leadership Conference will be held from Friday, March 2 – Tuesday, March 6, 2007. We will be selecting 15 OCA and 15 JACL members to spend 4 intensive days in Washington, D.C . The Conference is designed to introduce OCA and JACL members to the political process by having participants meet with Asian Pacific Americans (APAs) in Congress, the Administration, government agencies, as well as with OCA's and JACL's colleagues in the Washington, D.C. civil rights community. A workshop on media outreach will also be given.
During past leadership conferences, participants have met with Senator Daniel Inouye (HI), and Senator Daniel Akaka (HI), Representatives Robert Matsui (CA), Mike Honda (D-CA), David Wu (D-OR), Secretary of Transportation Norman Mineta, Special Assistant to the President and Associate Director for Presidential Personnel Edmund Moy, Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights Bill Lann Lee among others.
OCA members are strongly encouraged to apply to participate in the conference. In the past, it has proven to be extremely helpful to members in realizing how OCA chapters can most effectively work with OCA National Headquarters on issues important to the APA community.
The Conference will take place in Washington, D.C., centrally located in the Dupont Circle area, the metro, government agencies, the Smithsonian, shopping and restaurants.
