"Best dance of 2009" - David Velasco, Artforum (on Death Is Certain)
Seven performers re-imagine scenes from the 1980's film Poltergeist, or at least how Jack Ferver remembers it. Performed in Ferver's "hyper-reality" style, a tense and anxious Dance Play of the film classic acts as a metaphor for Ferver's personal experience with "Inner Child Work" in therapy. However the metaphor erodes and the performance gives way to a group therapy session, where the inner children of the performers are unleashed... and these children aren't all so sweet. As the adult performers are overtaken by their child selves, the audience finds themselves confronted with a much more horrifying spectacle than any horror movie could be.
