Chicago has boasted many great Japanese print collectors in its history, and Jack D. Beem is one of the foremost in Chicago today. Jack lived in Japan from 1964 to 1970, during which time he began a lifelong interest in Japanese art. Drawn to many of the arts of Japan initially, he found himself lured time and again back to the beauty, techniques, and forms in Japanese contemporary prints. His print collecting began in 1965 and has continued on frequent trips back to Japan. This is the first exhibition to focus exclusively on the Beem collection, and AIC is grateful to be able to present this important collection on the occasion of the opening of the new Japanese art galleries.
