The Hungarian Natural History Museum, the Hungarian Entomological Society and the Hungarian Academy of Sciences is glad to invite entomologists from Europe and beyond, to the IXth European Congress of Entomology, to Budapest, Hungary, between 22-27. August, 2010.

Hungary has a long tradition of entomological research and always had an important role also in the social life of entomologists of Central Europe and Europe. It would be a great pleasure for the Organisers if you would accept our invitation. We are convinced, that this congress will fit into the series of these developing gatherings of our entomologists, and will be outstanding as much as its content and atmosphere are concerned.

A main topic of the congress is: Entomology information: science – society, and the topics will include all important issues of basic and applied entomology, as usual in our congresses.

Budapest is an excellent conference venue. Various social events will make your participation even more meaningful and memorable.

Sessions will include:

1. Ecology (quantitative ecology, urban ecology, chemical and sensory ecology, insect-plant interactions, and landscape ecology

2. Nature protection and insect conservation (climate change)

3. Agricultural entomology (pest management, plant protection, forest entomolgy, ecotoxicology, effects of GMOs, invasive species)

4. Morphology

5. Zoogeography

6. Systematics and taxonomy, museology

7. Medical and veterinary entomology

8. Insect genetics (genomics, developmental genetics, population genetics)

9. Neurobiology

10. Physiology and behaviour

11. Science and society

12. Regional issues (Southeast Asian Forum, North American Forum, EU Projects)

13. Special interest groups (Thysanoptera, Social insects and apiculture, Non-insect entomology: crustaceans, arachnids, myriapods)

14. Further relevant issues raised by participants

Fair and exhibition of equipment, tools, chemicals, books, periodicals and other items will be arranged. Excursions to sites of world heritage, winetasting, cultural programmes and visits to research institutions will be organised for the participants and accompanying persons. During the Congress, access will also be provided to the insect collection at the Hungarian Natural History Museum.
