...A night not to be missed, whether you’re in the mood for heavy disco, a house inferno or lovers grooves we have this covered with two floors of Dj's and very special guests Odyssey.
A Nu-Yorican musical family from Brooklyn with a passion for blending disco, salsoul, afro-cuban and
calypso, Odyssey were an influential band on the dance scene who were best known in the USA for their 1977 hit ‘Native New Yorker’, and other smash hits including the Slave produced ‘Inside Out’ plus ‘Use it Up And Wear It Out’, which stayed #1 in the UK chart for two weeks in 1980, and the classic ‘Going Back to My Roots’ in 1981.
Away from the glitz and glamour of the Studio 54 scene, the group emerged from the streets where
Hip-Hop was born. Although they gained a lot of commercial success they had a parallel existence on the New York dance scene, performing regularly at clubs such as Larry Levan's infamous Paradise Garage. They were also in high demand individually as session musicians. Their timeless music has inspired further generations of producers and DJ's including Kenny Dope Gonzales, TenSnake and Dimitri From Paris.
2011 sees Odyssey teaming up with Yam Who? to record a new album for ISM which includes dynamic
updated versions of their hits as well as new material, mixing the live feel with modern production
techniques. Yam Who? have forged forged a reputation for refining the re-edit and pushing the boundaries of the remix, reworked artists as varied as Grace Jones, John Legend, Joss Stone and Zero 7.In 2009 they
set up ISM Records to explore their eclectic vision and build a musical community
They will be djing on the night along with 2 floors of musical DJ heavyweights headlined by Ashley Beedle.
Ashley's initial production as Black Science Orchestra on Junior Boys Own broke him internationally and X-Press 2's massive club hit, ‘Lazy’, an inspired collaboration with former Talking Head David Byrne was
a global hit. Ashley’s remixes are really too many to mention, but his golden touch has enhanced many
from Elton John’s number one hit ‘Are You Ready for Love’ to Bob Marley's ‘Get Up Stand Up’ and not
forgetting his moments with The Streets and Lilly Allen. His ability to always stay ahead of the pack
continues, his eclectic endeavours never stop and his blue eyed soul project with Darren Morris called Mavis (featuring Candy Staton amongst others) received critical acclaim in 2010.
His epic ‘live desk’version of ‘Native New Yorker’ will be out on ISM in February.
Joining them in the main room will also be Electric Boogie’s Shorty G, whose DJ style and diverse blend of house, disco, electronic funk and boogie always sets the place off, and over the last few years has become an integral part of the team at ISM.
