This all day program explores the art historical context of book arts specifically the history and traditions of paper making, binding, calligraphy, and decorative and figurative illumination, as well as a survey of the scientific and digital imaging techniques for the forensic examination of works of art. Speakers include: Jonathan Bloom and Sheila Blair (Norma Jean Calderwood Chairs of Islamic Art and Asian Art, Boston College), Francesca Leoni (Curator, Arts of the Islamic World, Museum of Fine Arts, Houston), Linda Komaroff (Curator of Islamic Art, LACMA), Tushara Bindu Gude (Associate Curator of South and Southeast Asian Art, LACMA), Yosi Pozeilov (Senior Conservation Photographer, LACMA), and Charlotte Eng (Associate Conservation Scientist, LACMA). Presented in conjunction with Islamic and Indian Arts of the Book: Conservation & Context, a professional development workshop for conservators that will focus on the long term preservation and exhibition of the arts of the book from both the Islamic and South Asian traditions.
