Ishmael Khaldi

ISHMAEL KHALDI was raised as one of 11 children in a Bedouin tent in the Western Galilee. He went on to earn a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Haifa and a Masters Degree in International Relations from Tel Aviv University. Ishmael served in the Israeli Defense Forces, Defense Ministry, and Police Force before becoming Israel's first Bedouin Diplomat in 2004. He was spokesperson to the Arabic media during the Disengagement from Gaza, then took a post as Deputy Consul General in San Francisco from 2006 to 2009. He is now policy advisor to the Foreign Ministry. His memoir, "A Shepherd's Journey," has just been published.
