The shadowy alleys and darkest dive saloons of Old New York City are born again by the ultimate chanteuse Lucy Maunder as she unplugs and reboots the decadence and danger of last century’s greatest songwriter… Irving Berlin. Irving Berlin In The Key of Black is at Riverside Theatres for one performance only on Sunday, 4 November.
Lucy Maunder holds the audience spellbound as she moves from heart aching classics like How Deep is the Ocean to the showbiz razzamatazz of Puttin' On The Ritz. With pianist Daniel Edmonds, a scintillating script by Nicholas Christo and directed by Neil Gooding, this dazzling team mines the songbook of last century's greatest song writer: Irving Berlin.
Most widely known for creating classic Broadway and Hollywood favourites such as White Christmas and There’s No Business Like Show Business, Irving Berlin’s prolific career began when he sparked an international dance craze with Alexanders Ragtime Band and overnight the world became his oyster. Irving Berlin In The Key Of Black had its premiere in the Blue Mountains in March 2012 and has since been touring nationally at venues including Slide Bar in Sydney, The Noosa International Arts Festival, The Judith Wright Centre in Brisbane and Her Majesty’s Theatre in Perth.
