IRISH SHORTS PROGRAM, 90 min. Join us for an evening of short films from Ireland, a diverse program including narrative, documentary and animation: Ross Whitaker’s “Home Turf” (2011, 14 min), afascinating visual celebration on the ancient art of cutting turf in County Kerry; Tony Donoghue’s “Irish Folk Furniture” (8 min), an animated documentary about repair and recycling in an Irish village; Tom Sullivan’s “Asal” (2011, 13 min), in which young fisherman risks his life to save a friend; Domhnall Gleeson’s “Noreen” (2010, 18 min), in which two policemen in rural Ireland who have no idea what is going on; Conor Finnegan’s “Fear of Flying” (9 min), about a small bird with a fear of flying that tries to avoid heading south for the winter; Kealan O’ Rourke’s “The Boy in the Bubble” (8 min), a gorgeous tale of first love narrated by Alan Rickman; Andrew Legge’s “The Girl with the Mechanical Maiden” (2012, 15 min), in which an inventor builds an automation for his child; Chris O’ Hara’s “A Different Perspective” (2012, 2 min), about a visit from an alien life-form resulting in several changes of perspective; Jason Barry’s “100 Degrees” (9 min), about a man contemplating what’s next after losing it all; Ian Whelan and Derek O’ Connor’s “Surprise Ending” (15 min), a short, sharp Hitchcockian thriller with a wee twist; Lorcan Finnegan’s “Foxes” (2011, 15 min); a paranormal adventure set in an empty tract of homes.
