Iris Weekend May 17, 2009

In mid-May, the Greater Kansas City Iris Society hosts the annual meeting of the American Iris Society. The convention's bearded iris master planting features over 1,000 varieties and is located on the back part of Powell Gardens. These meandering ribbons of flowers on the gentle slopes of "Iris Hill" were established by Dr. Norland Henderson. The convention has scheduled morning tours to the Gardens on May 14-16, but Iris Hill is open to the public as well.
